Moral Relativism, again

I just read yet another rant by a religionist claiming that athiests are moral relativists. This ignoramus has it backwards. I believe, for example, that it is ALWAYS wrong to kill someone who is not actively trying to kill me or someone else (or who has not been convicted of already doing so). Always. This princple does not change. Can the Christian claim the same?

The christian can claim he or she believes "thou shalt not kill", and that murder is wrong, but then ask "What about in the bible where David, before he was king, went on thieving raids with 600 of his best warriors, plundering from his neighbors, and then afterwards killed anyone old enough who might inform on him?"

Here is where the Christian dives deep into moral relativism. In this one example among hundreds, the Christian will invariably say: "But times were different then-- you just don't understand."

Oh, I understand. The Christian is incapable of saying the truth. David was a cold-blooded murderer. The god of the bible was a hypocrite in his treatment of David-- God should have sent him to hell for his numerous crimes.

The entire bible is WRITTEN ON pages of moral relativism.

No Debating

Sorry, religionists, but I won't be engaging in debates on this blog. It's not because I fear it. In fact, I would say that I've never lost a debate, and I've been in hundreds of them, even with bona fide Christian scholars and divinity professors. I've been on TV (albiet cable) arguing against the veracity of the bible.

The reason is that my time is too valuable. Like president John Adams, I consider the topics of religion in government, the evils of religion, creationism etc. to be "cartloads of foolish trumpery" that firmly deserve to be demolished. I just feel there are better ways of doing it besides arguing with delusional fools. Let's face it, biblical literalists and creationists are so ignorant and idiotic that they do not even merit speaking to. When a person is that far gone, there is little hope.

There is a page on bibletrash that contains the results of my past online debates. That will have to suffice, if you wish to know what I would say in response to you.

Welcome to the blog

Welcome!

I am the author of the writings on BIBLETRASH.COM, and the Evolution Education Resource Center.

Check here for new writings, quick thoughts, etc.

With all of the great freethought and atheist content out there, from the mid 1800's onward, I still feel the need to add to it. Some of what's out there is not strong enough, not direct and to the point. Other writings are too philosophical, too ethereal-- inaccessible to the average person. Really, most of what needs to be said was said by Ingersoll and Paine. But nowadays, thoughts need to be presented in bite-sized nuggets, easily digestible in 10 minutes. Hence my website, since about 1998.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you continue to gain benefit and enjoyment from my writings.
